National Anthem Behaviour

It’s one thing when the arena announcer has to remind fans to remove their hats before the singing of the national anthems at a large sporting event. I wonder if people forgot what the protocol is or is it that most never learned that they are supposed to do that?

To me it’s a whole new level of ignorance when NHL players standing at centre ice during the singing of either country’s anthem spit on the ice. I guess they think it makes them look like big cool tough guys. I’m going to say it makes them look like disrespectful idiots. This is a positive representation of your team, your league and your country? The NHL should institute a spitting fine for this boorish behaviour.

A quick lesson on how to stand at attention while at centre ice or on the bench during the singing of the anthems might be a good idea too. Paying attention to the country you represent even if you are not a citizen of that country for just a few minutes shouldn’t be too much to ask.

Oh well, at least they removed their helmets.
