Doing what’s best vs. doing what’s right

Doing the best thing or the right thing. They can be quite different.

Choosing to do the best thing is an easy default position. You can easily hide behind this decision because it’s too general.

Choosing the right thing requires you to slow down and think something through. Unfortunately doing the right thing usually comes with a higher cost in either emotions or money. There are likely longer term ramifications if you don’t get it right and do the right thing. It takes courage to do the right thing.

How do you know you are doing the right thing? If it’s the more difficult choice of all the options there is a high probability it’s the right decision. Time generally proves that hard choices were the right ones.
