Bad Advertising

Maybe the title of this blog post should be weak advertising or ineffective advertising or how to insult the intelligence of the person you would like to do business with?

Two examples from our local weekend newspaper:

1. A major manufacturer new car dealer says ” our friendly and knowledgeable sales staff are ready to serve you”. Really? That’s nice of them that they are at work and ready to serve someone that walks in the door. And here’s the biggie! I wonder if any car dealership or any business that’s still in business has jerks and stupid sales people on staff?

2. A local real estate agent spends big money on a front page ad offering a “a free home evaluation”. Really? Does anybody know of a real estate agent that charges for a home evaluation?? I wonder what that means he will provide? A report that says “wow, this is a really nice house”! Maybe he meant to say he would provide ” a free market value analysis”? But who would know. There was no web site address, only a local phone number in the ad.
