When you use your fingers to count, do you start with your thumb as number one or is your index finger number one?

My number one finger is my index finger on my right hand. Some will argue, and one recently did, that I’m wrong and “of course” it’s the thumb “stupid”!

As a further course of study on time wasting in the office, I then asked which fingers they used to indicate the number two, then the number three. Three people had now joined in and each used different fingers with their hand facing different directions, and again their way was the right way!

The animated discussion continued until someone realized that it was really time to move on. And by the way, number one is always the index finger!!! So there!
