After my last post about the closing of the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Winnipeg, I started to think about what really made this small local diner so well known that it was open for business for 55 successful years.
The reason for their success wasn’t because they used an abundance of real turkey and bacon in their now famous clubhouse sandwich. It was the fact that they had become known for doing one thing really, really well. The Wagon Wheel became known not as a restaurant but as a restaurant that specialized in one menu item. Of course people would come for the signature item and order fries, coffee and a great slice of home made pie.
The great marketing lesson is….. do one thing consistently very well and a you will be remembered….even after you’re no longer around.
