Last night I had an opportunity to volunteer with my co-workers from Bell Media Radio Winnipeg at MTS Centre to help the Christmas Cheer Board take in cash and toys from the fans going to the Jets game (we won…again). Actually we all won. The Cheer Board will receive $8000 in donations and 2500+ toys needed for the hampers. True North and the Jets won the support of their fans by enabling them to donate and the people of the city won me over with their generosity.
I have never seen any like it. It was as if people were saying we so much appreciate that we can go to a Jets game, let’s help out those that can’t. One person alone handed me an envelope with $280 in cash inside!
I believe that our “new” NHL team are helping to fuel the passion in others because our attitude here is changing from the negative to the positive. Last night there certainly was a passion to give. Thank you Winnipeg. I have never been so proud of my city.
